A dehydrated vegan fruit pie filling, like apple or even pumpkin, is a great vegan travel food that gives the illusion of having had a delicious dessert and fuels your body with energy from the fruits.
The combinations of fruits and spices are only limited by imagination, these dehydrator recipes are a jumping off point for developing a variety of homemade vegan snack recipes.
Apple Pie Fruit Leather Recipe:

Ingredients:
4 apples (or pears)
1/4 cup cranberries
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
Directions:
Cook the cranberries in a small saucepan with the water and maple syrup over low heat. Cook until the cranberries split and become saucy, about 10 minutes, and let cool.
Core and chop the apples.
Puree all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
Taste and adjust spices to suit. The spices should be a pretty strong flavour in the fruit puree, it will get lighter as the fruit dries.
Pour pureed fruit onto dehydrator sheets, turn on the dehydrator and wait 7-10 hours for the leathers to dry.
Check the dehydrator after four hours and rotate the trays if some of the fruits are drying more quickly than others.
Pumpkin Pie Fruit Leather Recipe:
Makes one dehydrator full of fruit rolls.

Ingredients:
2 cups pumpkin puree or 3 cups leftover roasted pumpkin
2 apples
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Directions:
Puree all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
Taste and adjust spices to suit.
Pour pureed fruit onto dehydrator sheets, turn on the dehydrator and wait.
Check the dehydrator after five hours and again at eight hours. Rotate the trays if some of the fruit leathers are drying more quickly than others.
Total drying time for the pumpkin pie fruit leather will be close to 11 hours as it is a very thick puree.
